His Name.
His name was Alex.
He always made me nervous,
made my heart pump fast,
butterflies in my stomach.
I always knew when he was talking,
he was always so loud,
although I just knew,
probably from the race of my heart.
I see him,
he’s looking at me,
I try to stand all mighty and tall.
I don’t know if he knew this,
but I would race around the aisles…
just to slow down,
see his face and smile.
To walk on past,
as if I wasn’t on a hunt,
Sounds really weird,
I sound like a stalker.
I would get so excited,
when he would find me instead,
reach for that hug that he always expected.
I’ve never had that before,
never knew that affection.
His name was Alex.
But I called him my Lion.
And it’s a funny story you see.
I met him at work.
I was innocent and naïve,
just a high school graduate.
He had come up to me before,
Welcoming me to the building,
asking me some questions, I had never ever gotten.
He would tell me his name,
but I would never remember.
Until that one day,
he came with me to my car.
He sat behind the driver’s wheel,
grabbing for my hand.
He then asked me “do you know my name?”
but I only nodded and said yeah.
I was already nervous,
having a guy in my car,
thank goodness for the badge that we all wore.
I could read his name clearly
Look what it said,
It said Alex,
I knew it!
No actually, I didn’t…
I kept going and said.
“you uh remind me of that lion,
from that one Madagascar movie” …
Oh yeah, how so?
He had a gleam in his eye.
He was funny like him.
He was tough like him.
He was outgoing just like him.
I told him all that,
and he laughed.
That laugh gave me chills and my heart started to pump.
I saw him in that moment.
I saw how he glowed.
He was smiling,
at no one,
only at me.
He became my Lion right then,
a start to our journey.
This story is something I would never forget.
His name is Alex.
But with forever being Alex my Lion.
