His Name Is Charlie
The best lessons are not spoken of, they are shown by example by the mentor to the mentee,
That was the first lesson my mentor taught me.
When I was scared, he showed me “your eyes will adjust to the darkness, do not be afraid”
When I was sad, he showed me “Stop. Enjoy the sun on your face.”
When I was lonely, he showed me “there is always someone that cares about you.”
When I was tired, he showed me “there is no shame in resting when you need to.”
When I was ready to quit, he showed me “push through, the view at the top is worth it.”
When I was angry, he showed me “take a deep breath, don’t do something you will regret.”
He doesn’t know he is my mentor,
He doesn’t even know the word.
But I will continue to learn from his example
Until our paths shall part.
