His Name Was Poetry

He taught me the value of my

emotions, to not be scared

when i felt as if i had no one...

but to simply just pick my pin up

and allow the anger built

inside to flow out of my

mind through my fingers

like rivers of living water.

He told me to display my

feelings upon a white sheet

of paper.

Yeah, you know..that white

sheet of paper with all those

blue and red lines...that’s the

one. Poetry taught me to

embrace how i feel and be

confident in every word that

i speak.

He is the color of the blind, the

music to the deaf. He is the

beauty of all words. He taught

me he was an outlet for my

ideas. He showed me how

to express myself through

my words each and every

time i spoke.

Poetry is the song that’s

within my heart and he is the

art form to my soul. Poetry

showed me freedom.

He created a platform for me

to say what I felt and not have to

apologize for it.

Through reading and writing poetry,

I’ve learned who i am

and how i can reveal the inner me

to the world without

feeling ashamed for doing it.

Poetry you’ve taught me the

beginning of me and now

i have to find the ending.

With my pin and my paper by my

side as my soul protector.
