From History

I am from the coughing slowly creeping down the stairs

and the constant worry if everything is ok

I am from two homes, two languages, two countries,

Yet one whole family

A loving family

And an unknown family

From a crazy outgoing sister

To trying to be myself

I am from 99 cent pizza and cars honking everywhere

From buildings towering over me making me feel so

small

I am from a country, a city, a street

9th street

But I am also from a country full of history

A country that had been split and taken off the map

From a country with mountains, rivers, beaches, fields

From a country that Chopin came from

From a country that Marie Skłodowska Curie came from

From a country that Pope John Paul II came from

I am from a once forgotten country

a proud country

Poland

I am from the music coming out of my two hands

Pressing a black key and a white

From the strong voice, I wish I had, coming out through my saxophone

I was from Church services every Sunday at 6pm

I am now part of the Neocatechumenal way

I was the words

“Yes, I believe”

Now I am the words

 “I don’t know”
