Hit Play

I am who I am, don’t ask me to change,

You say this to me as the tears trickle away.

They flow and flow, leaving a path of pain

and we listen as they go

Drip. Drip. Drip.

Its like you put yourself on pause.

And then forgot to press play.

Who put you on Mute? Who quieted your voice?

Why can’t I hear your melody, so full of joy?

There’s a barrier here, it won’t go down.

Please, come back, I want you here and now.

Love who you love, that 100 percent okay!

Its okay if he’s the opposite, or if she’s the same.

Love who you love, ignore what they say,

because all we have to do,

is make them change.

Look what you’ve done, cruel world

I’ve lost my friend.

Can’t you change, cruel world

and welcome her back again?

Judging someone by the color of their skin

is abhorrent.

Judging someone by the color of their love

is just as horrid.

I challenge the world

to hit play, and fast forward

into a world where equal is real

and not just an idea.

Come back to me please,

stop the pause and hit play,

for all my ears hear

are drip, drip, drip.
