Hitchhiker

John 8:35-36

35 The slave does not remain in the family forever, but the son remains forever.  36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be really free.

Hitchhiker

Met a man hitchhiking down the road.

One blanket and a knapsack were all he owned.

No responsibility he had just cared for his own.

He should have been happy being free.

A question here and there just to see what he thought.

Just mentioning the government brought him distraught.

I guess even the poorest among us are caught.

He should have been happy being free.

First, it was the welfare system that burned on his tongue.

Next was hatred between folks that left him undone.

Black, white, Mexican or Jew no one gets along.

He should have been happy being free.

In turning to different states and opinions he found

Texas hates Arkansas they should burn it to the ground

and California being sucked into the ocean a welcome sound.

He should have been happy being free.

Our nation should be united? That is just in name.

On our coins "in God we trust"  really is no game.

"Our leaders" being sworn in claim the same.

He should have been happy being free.

"The leaders" with hand on the bible swear

to obey the truth and serve the people … they dare.

Are they lying and cheating and laying a snare?

He should have been happy being free

He smiled and stated in what he has seen

our leaders should lay their hand on playboy magazine

and swear on that book what they really mean.

He should have been happy being free.

As we were driving down the road

and he relieved himself of that mental load.

Just being able to talk to someone "barely afloat"

He should have been happy being free.

We discussed religion and it's pro's and its con's.

Are answers to be found for all the wrongs?

Each for himself? In church? Not far-flung.

He should have been happy being free.

With a little envy and a raised voice

he explained the tantrum of people's own choice.

Having a job, go to work, bills to pay, sleep and what for?

He should have been happy being free.

I guess being free is just how you feel.

Not what you do … or whatever appeals.

A state of heart, a mental conception for real.

I guess that would make him happy being free.

I know in my case Jesus set me free.

Not from worry, grief or temptations' plea.

But from myself and what I wanted to be.

I really should be truly happy being free.

But my humanity and flesh pull me down.

Depressed feeling sorry for myself many a-round.

Until clearly, I'll hear Jesus' trumpet sound.

I will then be truly happy being free?
