In a dream of a dream, I dreamt this:
Falling asleep on the bed,
I ran away from my troubles to a place only I could control,
To a place I felt at peace, to a place I didn’t feel alone,
a place where God hugged me, and I felt his love.
The water that surrounded me is what I miss the most.
I walk the sands of the beach; I feel a cool breeze pass me where I could smell the salty air perfectly and someone frying fish.
The breeze swept up my long, curly hair to my face tickling my neck,
And messing it all, but I didn’t care.
Walking on the shore, the sand tickled my feet, and with each step,
the sand flipped around my ankles and is caught by the breeze, which came every other minute, it sent it flying off into the distance just waiting to rest somewhere else on the beach
I kept walking, until I reached the lighthouse made out of stone, built over five hundred years ago by my ancestors whose blood runs through my veins.
It had been built over the rocks that seem to stretch over the sea.
It has one window at the very top. I went straight to the edge to see the view where the sea was only a few yards away.
From there, I could see all I wanted to see.
The clear blue-green water reaching for the sand into the turquoise waters that
stretched out to the closest island.
So close but yet so far as a hundred miles or so away from me.
This is my gateway.
As I feel another breeze flutter pass me, I take a deep breath and I want to cry…
But I don’t, instead I sing…
I sing about the bittersweet memories flooding my mind as a river to its base.
The sounds of the clashing waves join me on my stroll down memory lane;
and with my song, in rhythm, beat, and fluency…
And it all helps me…keeps me… ALIVE.
As the night falls so does my little friend the Coqui, with his solo song he sings,
“Co-qui, Co-qui…Co-qui, Co-qui…”
Then when my song came to an end, I plunged into the sea, where all is at a
standstill, where all is warm, where all is at peace, where I want to be, where I can
feel God’s arms around me, and where I feel His presence and His love.
