The morning sun filled the room

Scattering shades of orange and gold

It’s warm rays laid to rest on hard oak floors

Causing them to creak in attempt to shake the cold

Her smile lights the entire room

Filling it with radiant love

Her warm hands lay to rest on your face

Causing you to smile like a fool in her embrace

Stained wine glasses sit beside the couch

Coals smolder in the fireplace

Reminiscent to the events that unfolded the night before

An empty bottle stands solitary on the granite countertops

It’s cork somewhere on the floor

She lays asleep under the bulky white comforters

Her lips are still slightly tainted

A deep red

Lingering from the now empty bottle of Merlot

Books of poetry line the shelves

Beside pictures of sunny days passed

Paintings hang on display

Lining the halls

Filling many of the rooms

The ones yet to be finished beg for fresh life

Lying in wait in the small office turned studio

Her voice sounds of poetry

Each word pulling you in like a receding wave

The look in her eyes tells you she’s full of stories

Many from sunny days passed

Different shades of paint grace her hands

As if a permanent feature to her body now

You can tell her thoughts have begun to wander

Back to the paintings in wait in her studio

You pay no mind to her lack of attention to you

As you know she must follow her passion

Her presence covers you in a warm type of peace

Something that just can’t be explained.

This is the place I call Home.

This is the place where I rest my head

And my heart

Where my woes can be left at the door

And peace can revive my soul

The walls hold memories of family gatherings

Late nights with friends

And nights full of loving whispers

Secrets between us both

The dining table holds the stories told around it like secrets

This is where I picture my life playing out

Every good day

Every bad day

And each mediocre one in between

As if my entire world is confined to these rooms

While there is world to explore

There is no place I would rather be.

She is the person I call Home.

The person who accepts my dreary head

My wary heart

With open arms

The sight of her banishes my woes

Her light brings peace to my soul

She has brought life to family gatherings

Late nights with friends

And nights between us two

She has the dining table set in the evening

Waiting to hear every detail about my day

She is the person I imagine living out my life with

Every good day

Every bad day

And each mediocre one in between

She is my entire world

No other place could compete

At the end of the day

Beside her

Is the only place I want to be
