What do you do when your words fall on deaf ear?

No one around to listen to what you need them to hear.

I struggle to find the words, hidden and ashamed

Praying of what I’d say if I could only speak your name.

It wasn’t supposed to happen—no, not like this

There was a time when I hung onto every word off your lips

There was an innocence and purity that only brought me bliss

And now there is nothing left, but empty fingertips.

There is no one that’ll talk about the splitting of my soul,

And no one to reach out to when the nights get so cold.

You were the hero of the story, but you feel like a ghost

I know they all miss you, but I needed you the most.

They act like your name’s a vulgar word, dirty and hated,

When that same, sweet name used to make them elated.

Without you around, this world’s become jaded.

The light that you emanated has since become faded.

You weren’t the first to go, and you won’t be the last,

But you can’t be replaced or just thrown into the past.

No where feels right, so my soul will always roam,

It’s a heavy price to pay when your solider doesn’t come home.
