The roaring crash of the waves, The calm, cloudless sky, The warm sun touching my skin. This was home. The chill of the water, The sight of the pier, The sand tickling the bottom of my feet. It was home. Home was a small Two-bedroom house, Where a family could live. Home was the smell of Chicken frying on Special nights. Home was when we All survived the Hurricane, The peace and calm shattered. Home was where I learned to swim. Home was where I was truly happy. Home was where I felt I belonged. Home was Norfolk. Our house overlooking The Bay, the Bridge-Tunnel To the right. We could look To the horizon, and never see The same bird twice. Our House was magnificent. I came in from school And created adventures In my loneliness. No place we've been Feels as right to me as Home. One day, I will return. A prodigal child I shall be. Making a trip to Virginia, And her beautiful blue sea. Home was paradise.
