Home Safe and Away

Bottom of the 9th and with all the batter’s might

I am hit through the air

People start to stare

Then I hear bang bang the fireworks go off

I land into a stranger’s hands

I can’t find my home of grass and sand

The man grips me tight

I can’t break away or fight

Next thing I know I’m in a case

I begin to lose the cover of my lace

Days, weeks, months go by

I just want to cry

I wish I could go back to the day

All the way back in May

Where my family kept me safe away

Then one day out of the blue; I awake and find myself somewhere new

A strange small hand smothers me

Suddenly I’m sailing smoothly and free

Smack! I’m soaring into the sky; Could this be a dream I’m going so high

No, I look around; I can see the grass and sand on the ground

Finally I am home
