Home Team Abandoned

What made me decide

to play for the other team?

The question that's constantly imposed

by my own mind,

who's answer seems to dim.

To admire the radiance of my own gender was no option.

To be stripped of my natural rights,

an outcast to society.

Relegated as a switch hitter.

Prohibited.

To be joined in the unity of marriage,

with the person of my desire.

To walk the path of life

side by side.

I'm forever damned

to be lesbian,

bottom of the ninth full count,

and you ask me

What made me decide.
