Home is Where my Mother's at
From the moment I was born
My mother has been my hearth, my stone.
Keeping me grounded and without scorn
Always making sure I was loved and never alone.
All was happy until one day when my father died.
And on that same day she lost her husband.
She could have locked herself away and cried
But she instead she remained strong and toughened.
The first few years after were not at all effortless.
She would come home from work she pretend she’s not exhausted.
Day after day she would put on a smile and tell me to be generous
because she loves me and was never caustic.
The years have quickly passed by and I have to leave and go
off to see the world, to travel and to roam.
Even if my mom is left behind, she should know
that even through the test of time, that I will always consider her to be
Home.
