Hometown

I walked through Cheyenne.
Your home, your childhood.
The snow desolated houses to
bleak.
I heard shouting and
darkness.  A woman
freshly bruised below the eye
carried that brown haired girl,
through the only lawn with
no snow angels.

By morning you bulldozed the lot
clean. Without a trace, without the mem’ry.
