Honeysuckle

I kissed his honeysuckle lips

Felt healing hands and fingertips

Whether ice or fire, I couldn't tell

But either way, they burned like hell

I’m a lifelong martial artist. I’ve written since I was young for myself as a form of self examination and therapy. Growing up closeted during the AIDS crisis and in small town Kentucky, I didn’t feel I had many options for outward expression. Life is different today, and I express what I feel here.

This is a poem I wrote quickly and wihtout the usual ruminating over edits that I do, after I first kissed a guy I'm crazy about. It was one of those thunderbolt moments where passion just hits and gives that heady euphoric feeling.
