Hood Life

Door creaks as sneakered feet cross the threshold,

Hoodie pulled, sight adjusted, deep breath;

To the street with haste, urgency pushing,

Eyes dart through billows of purple haze;

Danger from the brother on the corner,

Ever chasing the dream in the wrong direction;

The bulldog seizing youth misdirected,

Victims of undesired birth and death;

Survival of the mind rarely occurs,

Blown by the constant run, never rest;

Day in, day out, night up, night down,

Life in the hood... bars of the mind... lost in perpetuating self destruction.
