Hope

Things are falling apart, little by little

I can’t seem to stand tall; my tears never cease to fall.

I feel broken, beaten.

Everything hurts it never stops.

Why does my life have to be this hard?

Why is my mother always crying?

Why is my father always yelling?

Why is my boyfriend never there?

Why can’t I be perfect?

Why?

I feel like I want to scream,

Let all of this frustration out of me.

I walk in the closet, lock the door.

Lean against the door takes out my headphones.

Block out the world, at least for a half hour.

Maybe a little more, it really doesn’t matter.

The lyrics calm me

The melodies soothe the hurt that has come to live in my soul.

The words are my own peaceful lullaby, protecting me from the big bad world outside.

I’ve blocked out the noise, blocked out the despair,

Filled the void with hope, strength, love.

With my music, my life is bearable

My love is strengthened

My passion is revived

And my strength is restored.

My music gives me hope

Hope is hard to come by

But with my headphones on

Hope never seems so far away.
