Hope

I am strong; I am brilliant; I am beautiful; I am young; I am full of potential, and I applaud myself. I am vulnerable; I am scared; I make mistakes; I worry; I am human. Society cannot define me despite its urge to change my mind. I leave the little, lovely, limitless opportunities open to achieve. Yet, I seclude myself into an empty room, Plop myself upon a place of privacy, Sit there and be silent. The low tick of the clock and hum of the helicopter surround me while I fight with my demons. What do I do? Where do I go? How do I manage this thing I call my life? Do I socialize with fellow peers in laughter and smiles? Do I pretend like everything is going the way I always imagined? Do I sit and weep in self-pity of the misfortunes, memories, and mistake all running wild within my head? Do I turn to a trusted loved one to confine in? No. I sit back, Inhale a deep breath, And remember… The simple struggles of life pile onto the backs of everyone and everything on this planet. Does the student not apply to college because he thinks he’s not smart enough? Does a hunter stop a lion from attacking to protect his cubs? Does a patient lose hope when one round of chemo does not cure her cancer? Does the sun not shine after a monsoon? No. When the wonders of the world build up a barricade, Bother me, Become too much to bear, I look up. Off in the distance there is hope. Somewhere amongst the sparkling stars shinning upon my home God listens with open ears, words of wisdom, and promises of a brighter tomorrow.
