H.O.P.E.
How would one survive without the thing that keeps us going?
the motor motivating us to move, to keep on rowing
so our ship may stay afloat, so our boat can stay at sea -
so we can close our eyes and know that in good time, we'll be
safe within the harbor's arms, our worries cast away.
what protects our thoughts and holds the nightmares firm at bay?
Oh no, the life preserver will not do us any good
and the oars would fall apart, they're old and weak, they're rotting wood.
the boat's bottom has a leak and when you speak of doom and gloom,
the leak gets scared and spreads until a wet abyss has bloomed.
the anchor's fine, but in good time, will surely disappoint
because it's terrified of water and won't ever leave the joint.
Possibilities of death loom and linger overhead,
but close your eyes, hypothesize without impending dread.
you've come this far, why give up now? tell me, what holds you back?
are you afraid that troubles will display all that you lack?
take a breath and smile, for there's a weapon that you own
that's been there all along, for every cry and every moan.
Encroaching on your terrors and debunking every fear,
your mind's own superhero has arrived, oh yes, he's here!
he'll instill in you thoughts anew of dreams and what may be
and he'll do it all as long as you keep smiling happily.
he answers every cry and he'll never let you down,
when you can't cope, just call for HOPE, and watch your sorrows drown.
