Hope

How can you survive

without a shred of hope?

You cannot feel alive

if you're slipping slowly down a slope

to fear.

For how else can you

preserve, what memories you hold most dear.

Perhaps it's when you first tied your shoe,

or built a log fire.

If all hope is gone,

the battle is nearly finished.

Do not fear for if you look towards dawn,

hope is no longer diminished.

You'll realize you have hope,

and the fear of night lasts no longer,

there will only be a slope

to climb, which will only make you stronger.

Alas! Another day which has been

conquered, with  hope on your side.

So upon your face you feel a grin

and take each new day with a stride.
