Hope
I’ve walked this island,
Shore to shore,
And not a soul in sight.
Don’t know how long I’ve been here,
Don’t know when I’ll be home.
The days and nights all blend together,
When you’re in constant battle to survive.
Do they know I’m here?
Or have they never looked,
Because they think I died with the others?
Will it ever cross their minds,
That maybe I survived?
I only have one thing to hold onto,
Hope.
I hope that inspiration will strike someone,
To come and look for me.
I hope that a plane will fly overhead,
And somebody will notice me.
I hope that I can hang on long enough,
Until I can be found.
I do know one thing,
Without hope I am nothing.
I would have no urge to fight,
No desire to live,
If I didn’t feel the hope
Burning inside of me.
I would allow myself to decay,
And meet a lonely end,
Were it not for the hope
Of seeing my family again.
I will exhaust all of my efforts,
Even if it’s until the day I die,
To keep myself going,
Long enough to be found.
My existence is bleak,
But I have not given up.
For I have hope,
Which keeps my spirit alive.
