Hope

She came to him first in a fever dream

In between fits of shakes and screams

she murmured

useless and passionate things

that blistered up his chest

but fluttered away just before-

He choked

on memories

of monstorus things

Of beautiful, wreched, ugly things

too nauseating for comprehension

and too stubborn to ever seek redemption

Despair and desperation

awoke the banshee inside of him

He shrieked as it ripped free from his gut

It hungered for revenge

and so did he

he wanted to hunt

to destroy

to consume

and be free of his shame

but before he could fight

he needed someone blame

his searching eyes fell on her

his sweet, deadly mayfly

gone to fast

She'd built him up high

But, God knows she can multitask

While he looked up at the stars

she set her sights down on his grave-

which she had been digging

every step of the way

But, oh, how he loved her

so sweet on his lips

but his addition

didn't equal her sum

a mirage of clean water

that would never come

her smile was a rare flower

Beautiful, expensive

and true to its flowering nature

it withered

She'd shattered his defenses

and left him to burn

he'd leave her too

he declared it with conviction

knowing all the while

that his declaration was fiction

because despite his best efforts

not to let her in

when he least expected it

She came again
