Hope
The feeling I cannot live without.
This, I do not doubt.
A simple four letter word that holds so much meaning,
I clutch it close as I stare bankly at the ceiling.
I clench my eyes shut as I try to block out the feelings.
It is useless
My perfect mask is peeling.
My psyche is fragile like a mirror,
Should it shatter, I would be filled with terror.
My thin skin would part from the sharp edges.
A cruel cloud of despair urges me to make those dark pledges, sending me dreams of two meter wide ledges.
I hide from the light like an owl of the night.
I let out the agony as I howl mid-flight.
The radiant illumination traps me in its net and I give a might fight.
But I don't want to fight.
I cannot.
Not when my eyes drip salt,
"Is it all my fault?" I cry, "Please don't lie."
The black fades to gray, but that is okay.
Only in the presence of light are shadows portrayed.
Hope.
Thank God for that feeling!
Not for my despair,
But for the light I am seeing.
With it I can get through.
And I do.
I do.
