Hope

Hope is an awful thing

I used to have hope

It led me to believe that something would happen

She would come back

Everyone would be happy again

Her parents

They would smile and laugh

And I wouldn’t stay up all night

Praying for the god I do not believe in to lead her home

Hope has led me to believe that people can love

And that people can be happy

Hope is only lies disguised in happiness

Hope tricks you

It’s deceptive

It makes you smile

It makes you believe you can be happy again

Hope is like people

You give it your trust

And it lies to you

Everything will be alright

Everyone will smile

I will smile

We’ll be happy

Then it takes that precious trust

And it destroys it

Breaking it into millions of tiny pieces

Breaking you

Hope is an awful thing
