HOPE

Every so often a child comes along.

And brings to the heart a merry song,

Springing forth delightful joys

Of hope and love and lots of noise.

Life passes by like a fleeting cloud,

And all the things you firmly vowed

That would not be in the child's life:

Pain and sorrow, toil and strife.

What fools we are and oh so vain,

For thinking we can prevent the pain.

But peering through the tunnel of time,

Darkness, evil. Then light sublime!

Of a future where we all can belong

Together, and again hear that song

Of joy and love and endless peace.

Hate and death and war all cease.

Is it possible this wishful dream

For each child born we pass this meme?

It can be! Even if we alone stand.

And declare death, war and hate disband!
