Hope

what is this world we live in?

what is our purpose?

do we just live to die,

or is there a greater meaning?

is there life beyond death,

or is death an eternal darkness,

creeping up on us all?

what do we all live for?

is there a motive,

does it even matter?

to me, life is pointless:

we have no control.

we are puppets on a stage,

entropy tugging on the strings.

we are just part of the universe,

as are the stars, the planets, the moons.

our lives bring it closer to its end,

one at a time.

we are the universe,

its only way to think about itself.

wait. is that true?

is there life beyond Earth?

will we ever meet it?

maybe. maybe not.

we don’t know.

can we ever know?

i don’t know.

we don’t know what we don’t know.

how could we know?

we don’t know.

life is shrouded in mystery,

that’s what gives us hope.
