Hope and Redemption
Sister, she was my big-sister.
Spent my life, though, watching heroine eat her away.
Sister, she was my friend-sister.
The drugs changed her until she was a stranger.
And then the knock on the door. She's gone, he said. She's gone.
Changed, she changed. I changed.
We all changed.
Heavy hearts.
Hands hung down.
Faces to the ground...for a very long time. A lifetime...
Grief is heavy. It changes you. It drags you to your knees.
Straight to the ground. Can't get up...Can't get up...
And then, a glimmer of light shines through. A very small glimmer of hopeful light.
Darkness begins to disperse. And a small voice whispers...
Let it go. Let it all go. Don’t choose.
Open up and free it all.
Release the old and tired stories, and wounds and memories.
Like old, worn, dirty bags you’ve lugged and tugged and kicked and slung for years, and days, and hours and each miserable moment.
Let it go.
Leave it on the curb. Walk away and don’t look back.
There, see. Now doesn’t that feel good?
Now look up. You’ve been hanging your head and heart far too long
Look up! What do you see? A wide-open horizon. Space, and time, and hope.
Hope! Yes, there always was something better waiting just over that hill.
You just never found your way, with all your dark, dirty baggage and head hung down
Now go! You are free. Free.
Spread those arms open wide. Wider! Now just a little bit wider.
Let the rush of the unknown pulse within you, expand you.
There, feel your breath quicken.
You are on the edge of New Life.
Run, run to it. Sing its song of redemption.
You are free.
Sister, this is for you!
