Hope Beyond Myself

Some days I feel virtually lifeless,

Not understanding the rhyme or reason

For a trial that feels like a furnace.

I’m not in control and there’s no haven

For a bone weary and fatigued soul.

The overcast skies never seem to leave

Plus lightning that in my heart strikes a hole.

One day I can’t on my own achieve,

But God gives me His Spirit and His grace;

His continual presence by my side,

Refilling me with zeal to seek His face

And renewing trust in my Sovereign Guide.
And by this is my faith and hope restored:

“My plans for you are good.” declares the Lord.
