Hope Smothering
I hate it when my hopes are dashed.
I feel let down,
Like my knees were cut out from under me.
I cripple,
Spiralling into moodiness,
A vicious cycle of self-pity and anger.
Until I snap out of it.
Until I wrestle with my emotions
And bully them into submission through cold reasoning.
How silly I am,
To chase after frivolous dreams,
Like chasing a phantom.
I realize that the hope I longed for
Is not necessary,
And I move on.
I find a new dreams to fill me with warmth and hope.
Forgotten,
The smothered dream sinks into the background,
As my new hope takes over,
Stronger,
More resilient than the last.
So, try to smother my hope.
I dare you to try.
Because as soon as you extinguish one flame of hope,
Another spark will ignite.
