The Hope in the World Today
My writing has always come from my pain
So to write about what’s Awesome seems insane
Are you to tell me there’s a silver lining?
Are you to tell me hope is hiding?
I know that you’re right but I must confess
It’s hard to see under all of this stress
The stress of college and final exams
To the hardship of death and all its demands
Sometimes I regret that I forget to notice the truth
Life is pretty awesome I have proof.
Did you know only 13.5 percent of the world’s population is starving?
That means 86.5 percent of people are adequately nourished.
That’s pretty awesome a solid B+ the news makes it look like we’re maybe a D
But seeing this opens my eyes to see.
The world really isn’t as bad as I thought
The world really isn’t as bad as I was taught
The statistics get better just sit right here.
I’ll tell you why you shouldn’t live your life in fear.
When the us population has more than tripled since 1960
The crime rates have less then doubled.
I can’t say the world is perfect far from it but I can tell you this it’s better than you think
When divorce is really high and the news a lie you might think the worst is on the brink
But even war today isn’t nearly as bad
The number of deaths in World War 2 was forty million
Where in the war on terror less than two million not billion or trillion
Like the us national debt
This may be the only thing I would actually fret
Life really isn’t as bad as it seems
Though the divorce rates are high
And the debt is obscene
There is always a silver lining.
Look I’m not being fanciful or unrealistic
Everything I wrote was a real statistic
My writing might come from a place of pain
but to think the world is at its worst ever been would be insane.
