Hours of the Night
To the one who loves me most.
11 p.m.
I lay under my covers,
A single tear streams down my cheek,
Hoping you will be there
In the morning.
12 a.m.
I lay under my covers,
Listening profoundly to hear you.
Is it the snores of dad on the couch?
Or is it the moan of your sleep?
1 a.m
I run out of my bedroom,
To you.
I should have heard you sooner.
I should have never fell asleep just
Minutes ago.
I grab the needle beside your bed.
This is the only power I hold
In order to ensure your life.
All I can do is wait,
Sloftly holding your hand,
Hoping you will come back to me soon.
Please don’t leave us yet.
There is still so much for you to see
From your two daughters,
Who love you with everything we have.
2 a.m
I lay under the covers
In your bed.
You are back,
Crying due to the fact
I had to grab that needle
Once again.
You fall asleep soundly,
Still here for us for another day.
3 a.m
I cry.
Feeling the pain
Of the chance it could have been
The one time you left us.
Please.
Don’t leave us yet.
We need you.
