The House on the Corner

its the house on the corner the little blue one with the small back porch facing the slow setting sun the front door is shut but windows are lit and flowers are blooming wherever they fit in under the windows and all down the path making a garden around the bird bath the white picket fence that lines the front street is merely for show at barely three feet its the house on the corner the little blue one the place I call home I and my son I've lived here for decades my son, his whole life and with us a man who called me his wife that man is not home now he's long been away but he gave me his word that he'd be back someday so I will wait for him stay up and pray and leave the light on in case today's the day its the house on the corner the little blue one a place full of memories things that we've done photos and trinkets an old rocking chair the stump that is sitting out by the back stair the quilt is turned back I wish you were near remember, remember I still love you here go see the world but when alls said and done its the house on the corner the little blue one
