House of Melanin

I am from the House of Melanin

look at my skin

The chocolate that surrounds my eyes

the beauty from within

Mother Africa has blessed us

and God smiles awful hard

The arch of my back is poetry

strong as the tree in my yard

My blackness is my identity

and I wear it with pride

The way the sun delights with me

the shade of my skin I will never hide

Though the world may not recognize the splendor of my skin

I will beam with the joy of life

Because I am from the House of Melanin

This poem is about:
Me
