How To

I write because I cannot say the words I want out loud

I write because I cannot look you in the eyes when I tell you how I feel.
I write because you can twist even the most mundane of words into something beautiful

Alphabet soup for the mind
Pick the letters and rearrange them
Over and over again
An amazing game I learned to play
Instead of kickball with other kids

I love writing but I love words even more

Words are amazing
Words are why I can write
Words are the reason my fifth grade teacher still talks about how
I finished the Harry Potter series in a month
It was less than a month, actually.

I read words instead of notes
I wrote instead of spoke
An old habit I've had since I was a kid
My parents thought words were going to be my future
But I refused to put words on a paper
For meaningless pieces of paper.
Meaningless pieces of paper run the world
Imaginary value in crumpled up paper.
Dyed a different color so we know how important it is.

I love to write
I love words
I love what they do to you, your mind
I love to write words
Even if they make my friends cry
But
I hate the thought of
Being controlled by the paper.
I refuse to make words my future.
