We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That it is a lie. Simply a mere figment of imagination manipulation and you dare ask me how are you?how are you?
As if he or she would really be willing to stand there as you pour out your sob story
So much like slavery you’re forced to say I’m...I’m fine
As if yesterday you didn’t cry those tears
You’re broken so broken heartbroken Mentally and emotionally soaked in silence

A question that we all know is never really answered honestly yet we accept the answers we get so easily See deaf ears can not comfort screaming tears so...

As if it could really be summed up into just one sentence
Like depression isn’t making you question your very existence
As if the world isn’t made up of stereotypes and expectations
As if false manifestations haven’t already been planted inside of you
As if the walls you thought you built weren’t already there to captivate you
To silence you

To force my mind I mean your mind into believing that no one is listening
So let me be the first to tell you a little bit about me

Tell them about the constant afflictions and contradictions you put on yourself because of everyone else’s opinion

Stuck between what society has made you think you want to be vs who god needs you to be
Between rock and hard place
You’re running
Race after race and still ending up in this sunken place

Tell them About your oppression
About the nights you’ve cried
So much so you feel your face is eroding
So you put on this mask in hopes that no one is looking
In hopes that no one stares for too long
And the saddest part of it all is that we all own a mask
Whether it be a smile or contour
We are all Taught to conform yet I’m the one being treated far from the norm
I’m the one being followed through the aisles Immediately accused of shoplifting
Accused of resisting arrest
Expected to get rid of these battle scars
Held behind bars

Run from the bullets that might shatter my temple
Stay quiet keep a low profile
Because when they start profiling
You will become just another statistic

Run from the world that black people helped build
From ashes And still bound to middle classes
See now you’re uncomfortable

That society has taught me not to acknowledge

You’ve allowed the silence to grip your tongue so tight that you’ve forgotten how to write

Suffocating beneath the thought that maybe your brother would be alive if they didn’t take so long
If they didn’t get that morning coffee
Or if they clocked a little early
Given up on god because you feel he’s done you wrong time after time
You can’t fix this with just another rhyme
