How could you

How could you?
How could you look into the face of a demon?
How can you stare into the eyes of a void?
With flames leaping up, lapping viciously at the sky?
Dark black clouds adrift amongst fields of airborne ash?
Like a hurricane in a rowboat in the middle of the ocean, you hold on for dear life but show no signs of exhaustion or fear.
How do you do it?
Like you, I also feel no fear.
But, unlike you, it seems as though your storm rages next to the world, not against it.
How do you beat against the unrelenting current so relentlessly?
Day after day?
How could you be okay with this? Knowing that a storm is coming, with emotions so heavy they blot out the sun?
How could you be so brave?
How could you be so fearless?
Surely your selflessness is what those old fairy tales about knights dedicated to good deeds are made of?
How could you do it?
How do you do it?
Night after night?
How do you look into my eyes, and see what lies behind them, and insist on loving me?
How are you so brave?
