How Dare You

How Dare You

Say I am too young

To see and feel and think the way I do

How Dare You

Laugh,

And claim I cannot know what goes on

In this cruel world

Only allowed for adults

Though I went through at 12

What you have never had to at 40

How Dare You,

When you've seen nothing of what goes on,

Tell me hormones caused it all;

That sideways slashes are only drama;

That my blood stained sleeves are just another trend

How Dare You

See my trips to the bathroom after lunch

And the circles under my sunken eyes

And not question

Because I am not a girl

How Dare You

See him staring

And hear his vile words

Yet turn your ear away

Because my skirt is above my knees

How Fucking Dare You

Trivialize

Jeer

Speculate

Judge

Segregate

Trap

Ignore

Categorize

Abuse

When you claim only to teach

How Dare You

Live with yourself

After staring at each broken face

And ignoring each badly hidden bruise

And accepting each poor excuse

And convincing yourself that we'll all be fine

How Dare You, Teacher?

How Dare You?
