How Do You Know?
Does your heart ache with every laugh he breathes,
Agonizing the thought of never again hearing it?
Does the way his blue eyes sparkle, make you pray to the sky long and hard,
Begging to see them again every time they close?
Does his kiss give you just a tingly feeling,
Or does the warmth of his breath whisper words you couldn't have thought up yourself?
Does his scent smell of more than just cheap cologne,
Is it the first thing you breathe waking up, even when he isn't next to you?
Does he make you laugh,
Or does he make your sides ache until you're on the floor?
Does missing him consist of wanting him to keep you company,
Or is it missing the way the grooves in his hand line up with yours better than folding together your own?
Does he hear the words you're saying and respond?
I hope not. He should to absorb them like his only source of energy and use them to grow.
Does he make you cry,
Or does he cry with you until all of your tears have dried?
Do his "I love you"s come only from those three words,
Or can you hear it is his voice when he's telling you to buckle up?
Does the time in between seeing him make the skin fit wrongly on your own body, until he can stretch it back?
Does he tell you you're beautiful,
Or does he show you that you are?
When he pushes you toward the mirror, more importantly, do you believe him?
Does he make you feel wanted?
Would he kill for you? I hope not.
Let him bleed for you, don't let him put the wound on someone else.
And finally,
Does he make you feel guarded
Or does he make you feel safe.
Does he do these things,
And then answer to "Why?" with "Because I love you"?
If he does,
That's when you know it's love.
