How I became Me

   As the years go by

and time races on with it’s own agenda

never pausing or waiting for me to catch up,

I ponder how I became Me.

Was it when my happy home was torn in two

or when abusive men ruled my princess kingdom

or when scuicid and depression came knocking on my door?

   No,

It was when I learned what I didn’t want for my future family

when I learned my own worth and when to say no

when I learned that the desire to help people is a gift

and when I learned that I am stronger now than I ever was

and I wouldn’t trade that for the world.
