How I Did It
How did I do It?
I don't know.
Guess I just kind of went with the flow,
See, I'm here for a reason, and I told you that.
You just thought it was BS and senseless chit-chat.
Some people can't handle stress,
As for me...I wear it like a headdress!
Ready to do battle,
Giving my opponent a really, good rattle.
What's going to happen if I shut down?
Who's going be here to act like a clown?
Everything will be different, in a bad way, I think,
How will my family come back from the brink?
Because we come from good stock.
Mom's great sense of beauty,
And dad's a solid rock.
Long-living, hard-working people,
God-fearing, under a steeple,
Never deceitful, and always so peaceful.
Giving of ourselves was a gift from our dad,
And for that, I'm eternally glad.
And mom, she was a giver too,
There was something about mom...
She just ALWAYS "knew."
Nothing will ever be the same.
It's a different coach and a whole, new ball game!
So, pay attention, you younger bunch!
Cause some way, you'll be okay, and
come through in a crunch.
You may act lazy, but you know what you're doing,
Nothing wrong with ambitions, and pursuing… your dreams.
You're going to make it… alone, or in a team.
Wearing your destressed blue jeans, and funky shirts,
Living in a downtown loft, or on the outskirts.
Please remember something as you grow,
You've got to help others as they go down their path of life.
I'm not talking about the hubby or wife...
What about acquaintances, and good friends?
And how about making amends?
For acting like a jerk, to a convenience store clerk?
She was just doing her job,
And you were acting like a snob!
Don't forget where you come from.
So, stop moping and acting so glum.
Why not get off your butt and volunteer?
The holidays are coming, bring some good cheer,
To a stranger, or teenager, with no friends.
Show how YOU can transcend.
Always remember...it's not all about you,
It's they, and them, her and him, too.
Go out and buy something new,
But don't save it just for you...
Buy enough for the whole crew...and guess what?
They'll always remember you!
I know I will too.
It’s called paying-it-forward,
Doing what the doctor ordered…
Give, and give…then give some more,
And help restore, our faith in humanity.
It’s not just a fantasy, it’s the way you are.
You see, you’re going to be a super star!
Show it now!
