How I Learned to be Kind

There are days that go by in which I don't even think about my father,

The man who is 1/2 responsible for me being in this world
Now do not get me wrong
I am thankful for him
I am thankful for the "I love you's"
For the polly pockets and french fries
I am thankful for the Jay Jay days and bike rides
I am even thankful for the time he slapped me in the face
The time he told me he wished I was dead
The time he nearly broke down my door so he could beat me
The time he said he has no daughter
Because those are the moments in which I gained strength
The moments I will never forget
They taught me to always be so kind to others
Because others have not been so kind to me
