How It Is

I didn't know it could be like this.

That my feet could stay planted

and my heart made whole

by one person.

I didn't know I could find a home

within another's arms,

or find a light so powerful

it would drive away the darkness for good.

I didn't know I could feel like this.

That I could be safe to give myself up

for someone else

and keep them safe in return.

I didn't know. How could I?

When the one to show me had yet to find me.

But now I know.

It can. It will. We will.
