How Long You've Been Away

Dear Husband,

How odd for me to call you that.

Husband.

I've never once said it to you.

I call you lover,

sweetie,

honey,

cutie...

but not until you left did I want to call you Husband.

It's been a short time,

only a few days.

But it feels like a year...

Like a thousand days have passed since I've seen your face,

heard your voice.

Are they treating you well?

Are they feeding you the way I do?

Do you miss me as much as I miss you?

We agreed together. I know this.

I went with you,

watched you say the words,

hand over your heart.

So much pride filled me.

Maybe that's what I'll hold onto. During these months without seeing your face.

I'll hold onto my pride.

For my husband.

My soldier.

My Airman.

Love, your wife...
