How Love Goes

we want to love

it’s in our nature,

but what we aren’t prepared for

is what’s to come.

Love will make you feel empowered

it will make you feel on top of the world.

But, in living, we aren’t taught how to handle love at it’s worst.

How it feels to have that love turn sour

to have that love you embraced with your whole heart,

ripped at the seams and your heart in pieces.

Now you live in despair

wanting so bad to feel that warm high again

But instead, you live in regret.

Thinking why no one taught you how to cope with this drowning feeling.

And feeling like you’ll never come above water again

because you’re afraid to let the hurt come over you once more.
