How to Separate Boys from Men
The outside showed perfectionism,
as I ran with popularity and athleticism.
I was the big man on the block,
soaring over my peers like a hawk.
However, that is simply what the outside showed.
On the inside, I drove a different road.
I was seeking constant recognition,
to complete my mission,
of finding my self-worth,
in everything offered on this earth.
It was like I was getting older but growing down,
putting a mask on like a clown.
My momma told me to grow up,
moreover, learn to drink from my cup.
I did learn something that day.
I learned that growing up is about finding your way,
Moving forward with the rhythm of your own drum,
But not forgetting where you came from.
I didn’t know this back then
However, I think its what separates the boys from the men.
To Take life by the horns,
And overcome the thorns.
Search for the dream deep within your heart.
no matter how wild, that is where you start.
The start of a lifelong race,
This is where growing up takes place.
