How Simple an End

The nights so dark And yet it still grows darker more. It screeches and tears, Like mournful wails Caught wind from a distant shore. The moon he smiles a cynical grin As the world below enjoys its sin And so I stop, and sit, and stare And wonder what might be out there In the dark and cold and empty night That swallows my hopes with great delight But the night it’s fierce It grabs a hold And whispers things that should stay untold The dark has taken all your smiles, all your joy, and tears And in its place installed it favorites Sadness, rage, and fear my heart, it aches, with sympathy for that poor life that was cursed to me It did no wrong, it did no harm It tried to sway me with its charm Yet I don’t want it, it may part And stop my slowly beating heart Whats worse this thought, once you’ve been caught Your already far from gone Its pumping in your veins, and in your heart Its seething through your blood So whats the point in going on This life is warn and bitter But whats the point in staying still Your stories far from over For now my life may take a sigh For it is safe tonight But the morning is so far away And still I see no light Will I stay in this dark place Can I bear it anymore Will I last another day Can I fight this pointless war Beware the dark that’s circling for it will eat you whole From your fingertips to your toes, and all the way down to your soul

I became depressed when I was young and have struggled with it ever since. This poem means a lot to me because I wrote it during a time when I was contemplating suicide. This poem allowed for me to express how I felt and in a way dragged me out of my slump.
