How to Take a Picture

Location

Swipe my hair to the right

Leave a few strands to cover some eye

Leave the sun in the back to brighten

Smile wide but no chubby cheeks

Get that perfect filter to get the right color

Wait, what am I doing?

Why am I trying to make myself look good

For who am I trying to appeal to

What’s the reason that I want to make myself

Into someone that I think looks better?

In fact, why does almost everybody do that

In society, why does it matter how good a person looks

We shouldn’t care about trying to look like models

But society has made us believe that good looks equals

Coolness

Confidence

Friends

This is bullshit.

People should be smart enough to accept others

Not on how good or bad a person looks

But by what that person is like

And what they do for others.

People should be smart enough to realize that

Nobody defines who you are except yourself.

Don’t care about what anybody says.

You don’t have to take a picture of a perfect you

Just take a picture of what you want

Don’t let anyone influence how you want to take the picture

That’s what I’m gonna do.

I’m gonna take a picture to express what I think

Without trying to gain acceptance of any sort

I just want to share an idea I have

Filters and decorations hide things

Like flaws and imperfections they cover up

But I’m not gonna give a damn

So I’m gonna take the picture without hiding and wanting acceptance.

This is my face, my hair, my skin tone, my flaws and imperfections.

This is me.
