How things change...
It started so simply,
Never a cross word.
Until you tried to own me,
And tried to own my world.
Extrovert turned introvert,
Happy turned sad,
This is not how it is meant to be,
I was slowly getting mad.
Leaving proved difficult
but was never an option.
I know leaving was more than a precaution.
With him, I felt like I was dying.
I met a new man who loves me for me,
never once feeling pressured
never wanting to flee.
He slowly changed my world.
Now I am happy with my new love,
I am no longer taken advantage of.
Because of boundaries and respect
neither of us feels neglect.
Through work and communication,
every day with him feels like a vacation.
Though I was scared to leave my abusive situation,
doing so has brought me such elation.
