How the World Came to Be

There is a small island called Macaland (ma-ca-land) in the Atlantic Ocean, that is covered by the letter “A”. No modern civilizations know that they exist. They still live in olden days and they still believe in their myths. There is no electricity, no internet and no cars. They live off the environment and are happy to. This is their first myth, the myth of creation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the beginning there was only Mother Darkness. She was lonely in the sky. Mother Darkness wanted company. So with her powers, she created five children. These children looked like modern day humans, but had different powers for themselves. Each child had marking tattooed onto their shin that would light up when they used their powers.
The first child she made was named Earth. Earth was a tall, dark-skinned girl with dark green hair and light green eyes. She wore a dress made of leaves and branches that twisted with her figure. Her skin had black leaves and vines that lit up green.
The second child was named Fire. Fire was a medium height light skinned girl with red and orange hair. Her eyes were a deep red. She was clothed in a dress that danced with flames. Like her dress, black flames danced on her skin that lit up orange and red.
The third child was named Water. Water was a tall dark-skinned boy with light blue hair and deep blue eyes. He wore pants made of calming waves. Black roaring waves crashed onto his skin that lit up a variation of blue like the sea.
The fourth child was to be called Air. Air was a short, pale boy with bright white hair and grey eyes. He wore pants made of puffy clouds. Similar two his pants, the marking on his skin was blowing clouds.
The last child was named Energy. Energy was a tall, tan girl with white and blue hair and eyes that were constantly flashing with electrical currents. Her dress and her black markings matched her eyes.
 Mother Darkness told her children “I have been alone in the darkness for so long. Each of you create one thing with your powers that you think will end my sadness and loneliness. The winner will rule the universe with me. The others will be banished.”
And as their mother instructed, they did. Earth’s gift for her mother was a clay bowl filled with dirt and a sapling growing in it. Fire made a small flame in her hands. Water created a large raindrop. Air made a white cloud. Finally, Energy created stars and the sun. All the children present their gifts to Mother.
“Do you not love your mother?” Mother darkness questioned. “None of these things will end my suffering. These are mearley objects or elements. I want company and companion. Go and leave me at once; you all are banished”
Shock and sad, the children live their beloved mother. Earth created a rock and all of the children sat in a circle.
“What are we going to do?” asked Fire.
“I have no idea.” answer Air.
“I’m scared.” Water looked like he was about to cry.
“We did what she wanted. We each use our powers and create something with them.” Earth stated.
“We didn’t do what she wanted. She wanted us to create one thing with our powers that think will end her sadness and loneliness. All we did was create things that make us happy.” Energy spoke up.
“What do you mean?” questioned Air.
“Earth made earth. Fire made a fire. Water and water. Air made air. And I made energy.” Energy replied. All of the children sat in the quiet of the darkness. One by one they realize how their mother felt. The darkness and the quiet was lonely and scary.
After a long period of time, Earth spoke up. “What do you think we should do?” All of the children nodded their heads in agreement.
Energy took a deep breath and stood up. “We are a family. We need to work together. If we combine our powers, then we can create things to fill the loneliness. We should create life, so Mother will not be alone while we are banished.”
“Well we aren't as powerful as Mother, but I guess if we work together we can make a living thing.” Fire stood up excited.
“Before we make life, they need a world for them to live it. Let's get to work!” Energy stood up as well. The other children stood up excited.
First the children used their individual skills to make the planet. Earth made the land. Fire made the planets, volcanoes and heat. Water made the oceans, seas, and water. Air made the atmosphere.
Working together as a family, the children combined their gifts in an efferdent amount of ways to make the planet the best it can be. Some examples of this are Water and Air made clouds; Water and Earth made plants; Fire and Water made stones; and so on and so on. In the end, Energy made everything live and work.
The children rise above the planet, admiring their work. “Now we have one last thing to do. We must create life for Mother. We need to form a circle and hold hands.” Energy said.
Earth grabbed Fire’s hand, who grabbed Air’s hand, who grabbed Energy’s hand, who grabbed Water’s hand, who grabbed Earth's hand. When the circle was completed, a golden light came from the circle. Down on the planet, all sorts of life forms began to move. Water base animals went to the water, flying animals went to the atmosphere and walking animals went to the land.
The children let go of each other's hands and looked at their work. They were so happy that they hugged. From this hug and from their love, humans were born. The planet was complete, the children brought it to their mother.
“Why are you here? Haven't you hurt me enough?” Mother Darkness asked her offspring. The children looked at each other, Earth movers forwated.
“Mother, working together we created a planet full of diverse life to keep you company. We now know that if we work together, we can do anything.” As she said that, Energy presented the planet to Mother Darkness.
Mother Darkness looked at her gift and smiled. “You learned the lesson I wanted you to learn. As a family you can do anything. Thank you for my gift. Your banishment is gone, but you must take care of this planet with your gifts. Humans are weak and need protection from each of you. I will give them the gifts you gave me earlier so that they might survive. I am proud of all of you!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is the story that is passed down from generation to generation on the island of Macaland. The Macaian people tell this story by the fire, one of their gifts from Mother Darkness and her children. These people pray to Mother Darkness and her children for all that they have.
