Human

For heaven's sake Open your eyes. A handful of decades is what separates us From the inhuman treatment of our fellow men And I've heard the slurs even now As I sit beside him With skin darker than mine. But his heart beats like mine And his eyes see like mine And his blood runs red when they wound him, Just like mine does. He thinks, he's articulate, He feels, he breathes, he loves. And yet Not too long ago We would have been in different worlds: Separated by walls, and chains, and words. Thank God they fought for his rights! Listening closely, the word resounds Like a heartbeat Around the both of us: Human, Human, Human. For heaven's sake Open your eyes, Unlock your mouth. We're all human.
